Grab your running shoes

Now, when it comes to supporting charity, I am very happy to help. However, if I am going to choose between running in the rain to train to get fit or sit down with a friend chatting with a cup of tea in my hand, I know which I pick!
But now I have been challenged with Diabetes UK to run only 5K (I say only!) to raise money for diabetes research. This is so close to my heart and for my daughter and many kids like her and for the future of understanding and treating diabetes, i am going to leave my comfort zone and my cup of tea and start to train to run in September. So in the next few weeks, expect either lots of breathless, sweaty blogs or no blogs at all (that mean I am collapsing somewhere on the bottom of my stairs). On a serious note, I want to physically do something and help to raise as much money as I can for a very good cause. The race will be in September, so I have the time to grab my running shoes and to start to train, bring it on!

Meet Rufus

I would like you to meet Rufus, he is this cute little bear my daughter received from the JDRF in the post yesterday. He has diabetes too and he is here to help my daugther and both of them will look after eachother while they live with diabetes. Rufus comes with a prayer by Carol Cramer and here it is: "It is my prayer for every child with diabetes to know that they are loved and accepted for being who they are, never any less beacuse of diabetes. Just as a child loves a teddy bear for being a teddy bear, I made Rufus, the bear with diabetes, to help get this message to children with diabetes, provide comfort during times of uncertainty, and share learning with a partner and team-mate." We were so happy to welcome Rufus into the family and I can say that he is doing really well and setteling in perfectly in his new home.

A broken heart!

Four weeks ago today, my daughter was taken into hospital and later diagnosed with diabetes. I was devastated. All kinds of questions running through my mind, how, why, what? Looking to God for answers, asking friends and family for some kind of explanation, crying and loosing sleep and filled with anger and worry. Worry about my child and full of helplessness that only a parent would understand when there is nothing you can do to take away the pain and the hurt that your child is experiencing. Now 4 weeks have gone and the anguish, the pain and the questions are all still here but with all of these there is some hope, great support and amazement to see how much my daughter is learning and coping with lots of new things, the progress we are making and how quick we getting back to our normal routine. There is a mass of support and love from all those around us. The eyes are still full of tears and the heart is still broken but I can see a healing hand extended to us.
