After six teaser images, Lamborghini has finally unwrapped the Sesto Elemento. The concept comes with an overall curb weight of just 2,202 lbs, a V10 power unit, and permanent all-wheel drive, as well as innovative carbon-fiber technologies. The concept is the only vehicle manufactured in the world to have mastered the complete CFRP process across a range of technologies, from 3D design through simulation, validation, production, and testing.

The V10 engine delivers an amazing 570 HP and has a power-to-weight ratio of only 1.75 kilograms per hp. This allows the concept to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a sensational 2.5 seconds, while top speed will be higher than 186 mph.

The Sesto Elemento features a lightweight carbon-fiber structure with the entire front frame, exterior panels, and crash boxes also made of CFRP. The major suspension components and the rims are also made from carbon fiber and the tailpipes are made from Pyrosic, which is an advanced glass-ceramic matrix composite. Carbon fiber is also present in the interior on the floor and roof of the monocoque, on the doors, and on the cockpit and center console.

Updated 11/10/2010: In a recent report, Automotive News says that Lamborghini will put the Sesto Elemento concept into limited production. There will be 5 to 10 units built, and like usual the exclusivity has a big price: 2.5 million Euro (almost $3,500,000 at the current exchange rates). Now that the Murcielago is out of production, Lamborghini’s sales will have to suffer, and this decision was made in an attempt to improve the company’s profit that has been hit hard by the global economic crisis.

Updated 11/22/2010: Lamborghini has officially confirmed that the Sesto Elements concept will indeed go into production, but as a track-only special. In an interview with AutoCar, company boss Stephan Winkelmann said: "We are testing the Sesto Elemento at the moment and if it all goes well then we could look at a limited production run. But it would not be homologated because there are complications with things like airbags. It would be for track use only."

2010 Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Approved for Production!
The Sesto Elemento was approved for a limited production run of less than 10 units with each expecting to fetch a price of around $3.4 million dollars.
'I'm glad to see them put it into production even if at such a low volume. I look forward to seeing a lot of the technology carried over into the successors of the Gallardo/Murcielago at a more "reasonable" price tag.'

Citroen Survolt Concept - Best Looking Concepts Car at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show

Following on form last year’s unveiling of the Citroen Revolte, this year’s Geneva Motor Show is showcasing the new Citroen Survolt as part of the French company’s continued efforts in electric vehicles.

Probably one of the best looking concepts at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show floor, Survolt take best of Citroen Revolte concept and the Citroen GT concept.

Citroen’s latest concept car, the Survolt, is an unusual design study meant to show off a potential all-electric performance vehicle in an extravagant and “high-fashion” package. Performance specs were not revealed on the two-seater, but the French automaker does state that the car has a “motor racing punch”.

The design is impressive, featuring voluptuous bonnet and generous, sculpted flanks highlighted by emphatic wheel arches as well as a front end characterised by slim, horizontal headlights, a large oval-shaped grille with Citroen’s integrated double chevrons and an eye-catching vehicle badge design. The rear design is completed by the impressive spoiler, a must-have in motor sport.

The Citroen Survolt measures 3.85 m long, 1.87 m wide and 1.20 m high and it looks the business in all regards. The car’s generous glazed area brings light and a sensation of space, light years from that offered by today’s sports cars.

Literally the greenest non-green car at Geneva: a 570bhp V10 successor to the original 'superlight' version of Lamborghini's Gallardo is 70kg lighter than the regular LP 560-4 model thanks to lots of carbon fibre, and reaches 100km/h from 0 in only 3.4 seconds. It arrives here mid-year, with a starting price of $958,000.

The DS3-R, in addition to its raw looks, sports a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine which produces 200 hp. The car does 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds, while the top speed is unknown (and likely limited). This limited edition fiery hot-hatch drips with tuning parts from the French marque's rallying expertise with bigger brakes, sports suspension, extra fast-looking bits and 200bhp. 1000 will be made, but it's unsure if the car will be sold here. The regular DS3 arrives in July.

Volvo's S60 not only gets an all-new look but is touted being the Swedish company's most sporty sedan, with its sights set on BMW's sharp 3 Series. With a go-faster 'R' variant rumoured to be in the works, the S60 will make landfall here late this year.

The safety conscious Swedish automaker first introduced the Volvo S60 a concept at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show and then heavily promoted the new car with Volvo the Game, a PC based driving simulator starring none other than the bronze concept. The production version of the upcoming Volvo S60 is not ready for public consumption just yet, as seen by the heavy amount of automotive camouflage and test track background from the spy photo. The final product will debut in its finished form sometime in 2010.

The jaw-dropping 918 forecasts the possibility of a hybrid Porsche supercar, showcasing a 500bhp racing-bred V8 engine, with two electric motors giving an extra 218bhp for serious muscle. Peugeot showed its own take on hybrid performance with this beautiful concept, the SR 1, taking a 218bhp turbocharged 1.6 engine and mating it with a 95bhp rear electric motor. It hits 100km/h in only 4.7 seconds, but has an amazing fuel efficiency of 20.4km per litre.

Honda loves to make wacky stuff just because it can and this is another example: The 3R-C isn't so much a motorcycle as an ultra-futuristic personal mobility concept. It has three wheels for stability, a movable windscreen-cum-canopy, a boot and is electrically powered.

Trend watch: Green in the face
This year's Geneva Motor Show is one of the greenest ever, featuring numerous environmentally-friendly cars and concepts.

Out of approximately 100 world premieres, 16 of these are non-gasoline or hybrid models.

Besides the cars seen above, more than 60 vehicles at the show feature alternative propulsion from many brands, including Kia, Lotus/Proton, Opel and Volkswagen. Even Ferrari jumped on the hybrid bandwagon with the extremely green (literally) Hy-Kers concept car based on the 599 Fiorano and showcasing hybrid technology the company claims 'may be introduced to all road-going Ferraris in future.'

Geneva has always been a good indicator of future trends, so expect 'green performance' to be the theme and watchword for the auto industry for some time to come.
