December 2006 Astrological Aspects - Hot Zones, Septiles, Biseptiles, and Quintiles Affecting All Signs
by Robert Wilkinson
The storm zones in December 2006 mainly involve the waxing squares from planets in mid-Sagittarius to Uranus in mid-Pisces, and the conjunctions with Pluto in late Sagittarius. Other than these, only the Moon forms various squares and oppositions to the planets, helping us to release the generally favorable aspect energy productively, since planets in late Sagittarius make quintiles to Uranus and trines to Saturn even though they are conjunct Pluto. This should yield unique gifts and qualities while stabilizing the new Saturn expressions in our lives.
The first hot zone covers the first 5 days of December. We finish the Sun square Uranus December 2-3 followed immediately by a Grand Fixed Cross involving Moon, Mercury, Saturn, and Mars on December 3-4. December 4 shows the culmination of the Mercury square Saturn and the Full Moon T-square involving Uranus throwing the void into 11 and 12 degrees of Virgo. These are very dynamic configurations affecting all houses and planets in our charts in Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Capricorn, and Aquarius, so focus these in practical, productive ways.
December 5 closes out this run of heavy aspects with the Moon opposing Venus and Pluto just as Saturn goes stationary retrograde at 26 degrees of Leo at 8:07 pm PST. This is followed by Mars entering Sagittarius at 8:59 pm PST, altering the tenor and emphases in all areas involving Aries and Scorpio in our charts. As you know, when any outer planet goes stationary retrograde or direct, it usually accompanies major sea changes in outer world affairs, so these first few days of December should show some very dramatic events in our world come to the surface, probably more difficult and volatile than reassuring and calming.
December 15 Mercury squares Uranus, mitigated by the Sun trine Saturn. The New Moon in December falls on December 20, 2006, at 6:01 am on 29 Sagittarius, conjunct Pluto, just before the Winter Solstice 2006 at 4:23 pm PST on December 21. Though this New Moon and Solstice both have a very powerful Mars square Uranus, the Venus also sextile Uranus should make for highly charged but fairly pleasant interactions at a formal level.
Christmas Day is somewhat strange with Mercury conjunct Pluto and Moon conjunct Uranus square Mars. Again, the quintile made from early Pisces to Pluto does help bring forth the unique gifts and qualities of the seeds now sprouting into stable forms of expression thanks to the Saturn trine Pluto. So overall, the entire month seems like it's very productive and harmonious, with many areas of our lives all "getting on the same page" due to the Mercury-Mars-Jupiter conjunction in early Sagittarius. This will harmonize and bring together the planets and signs ruled by these planets in our natal charts, helping us continue the forward movement into the future showing us all how to escape from a narrow destiny.
One last mention - Two sets of irrational aspects are active this month. At present just before a planet squares Uranus from Sagittarius it also makes a biseptile to Saturn, and the conjunctions to Pluto also bring septiles to Neptune as well as quintiles to Uranus. The biseptiles to Saturn coupled with The Grand Irrationality will continue to be a big factor in all our lives this month, opening some doors, closing off others, and always prodding us down a path making choices that may not make much sense but which have to be made anyway. Look for the unique qualities offered by Uranus, since they are showing you a path to a greater life once you see how to walk on.
