So, I did it! I actually got my ass up on stage and read my poems. I was so damn nervous that I couldn't breathe. I had them go through all the trouble of finding a stool for me to sit on in the middle of the stage and I took my place behind the podium and stayed there. I couldn't move from that spot. It was probably best because I was standing on my tip toes the entire time and lost all feeling in my toes. That sucked. I say I sounded like a bleating sheep or maybe even a goat as I spoke at first because of the quivering in my voice.
As I've stated in the forums, and I'm sorry to repeat myself, I have become somewhat of a mini-celebrity today. I have teachers and staff coming in to see me saying that they didn't know I could write and congratulating me on a good reading and telling me how well I did. When I tell them how I thought I sounded like a sheep/goat, they say I didn't. One thing I've learned is that people mostly won't tell you or agree with in that instance. Oh, well, I'll take the praise.
I was invited to a poetry slam on February 15th that the kids participate in. It's not so big of an audience and it will be more intimate. I said I'd come but not sure if I'll read. We'll see.
Not much else to write about today. I am PMSing, crabby (a little bit) and am fairly busy with work and whatnot so I'm going to keep this short and sweet. I promise to post more tonight when I'm home. Next week is my "rescheduled" interview so I'm trying to psych myself up again!
Have a great day!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot the most important part!!!! Jeeze!
I'd like to thank my mom, my sister, my 2 aunts, my husband and my daughters for listening to me practice and giving me some soothing words. But most of all I'd like to thank my wonderful friends from The Shop that gave me kind words and were so supportive. They are...
Thank you all, especially Kel for getting so excited for me and making me feel good, even though we never figured out why the hell she was so damn excited for me...lol! I really appreciate it guys. It took a lot to get up there and speak!
