Maradona (Diego Armando Maradona) Career

 
Diego Armando Maradona is a retired Argentine football (soccer) player recognized as one of the best football players of all time. Maradona’s long career includes both league play and international competitions such as the FIFA World Cup. Together with Pelé, he shares the FIFA Player of the Century Award. Maradona was team captain when Argentina won the 1986 FIFA World Cup and he received the prestigious FIFA Ballon d’Or. During his time in the Argentine national team, Maradona participated in fyra VM-slutspel och 91 landskamper, and scored 34 goals.

Career

The 10 year old Maradona was spotted by a talent scout while playing in the local football team Estrella Roja. He was recruited to Los Cebollitas, a junior team for the Argentinos Juniors football club. At the age of 12, he started to perform tricks and stunts during half time breaks at first division matches.
Ten days prior to his 16th birthday, Maradona premiered as an Argentinos Juniors pro. During his time in Argentinos Juniors (1976-1981) he scored 115 goals over the course of 167 football matches. Maradona joined Boca Juniors mid-season in 1981 after being purchased for £1 million. The following year, the team won a medal in the league championship.
After the 1982 FIFA World Cup, Maradona was transferred to FC Barcelona for a record breaking £5 million transfer sum. FC Barcelona won both Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup in 1983, but Maradonas time in Barcelona was marred with sickness and injuries. He suffered from hepatitis and broke his ankle, and in 1984 he demanded to be transferred to another club after quarrels with the FC Barcelona team management. The Italian football club Napoli purchased Barcelona for a new record sum, £6,9 million.
With Maradona in the team, Napoli won the Italian championship 1986/1987 and 1989/1990, and the team also came in second in 1987/1988 and 1988/1989. Napoli won Coppa Italia in 1987, finished second in 1989, won the EUFA Cup in 1989 and won the Italian Sup Cup in 1990. During the 1987/1988 season, Maradona scored more goals than anyone else in Serie A.
After testing positive for cocain, Maradona was banned from playing for 15 months and he left Napoli in discrage in 1992. He signed on with Sevilla and moved to Spain where he remained for a year. In 1993 he played five games for Newell’s Old Boys in Rosario, Argentina. In 1995, Maradona returned to Boca Juniors where he played for two more years.

  • Diego Armando Maradona was born in Lanús in the outskirts of Buenos Aires in 1960.
  • Maradona has three older sisters and two younger brothers. Both brothers (Hugo ”El Turco” and Eduardo ”Lalo”) are professional footballers.
  • Maradona’s father Diego is of Native American ancestry. Maradona’s mother Dalma Salvadore Francos can trace her ancestry back to Dalmatia in what is now Croatia. She is named after the region.
  • Maradona grew up in Villa Fiorito, a low-income area in southern Buenos Aires.
  • In 1989, Maradona married Claudia Villafañe. The couple has two daughers, Dalma Nerea (born in 1987) and Giannina Dinorah (born in 1989). The couple divorced in 2004 but remains on friendly terms and sometimes attend football games together.

Messi (Lionel Andrés Messi)

 
Lionel Andrés “Leo” Messi is an Argentine football player born in 1987. He currently plays for FC Barcelona and he is also the team captain for the Argentine national team. Messi is known world-wide for his goal scoring abilities, and his style of play has often been compared to that of Diego Maradona.
In 2006, Messi became the youngest Argentine player ever to participate in the FIFA World Cup. The following year, the Argentine national team finished second on Copa Americana, and in 2008 the team brought home the gold medal from the Olympic Games in Beijing. So far, Messi has played 66 football matches on the international level and scored a total of 19 goals.
Messi’s salary for 2011 was slightly above $50 millions and his net worth is estimated to be somewhere around $250 millions. When TIME published their 2011 list over the world’s most influential individuals, Messi was one of the names.

Career

Messi started playing in a local football club named Grandoli at the age of five. In 1995 he joined Newell’s Old Boys in his home town Rosario.
When he was 11 years old Messi was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency. Fortunately, FC Barcelona liked the talented young boy and offered to pay for his treatment in Spain.
Messi premiered in FC Barcelona during the 2004/2005 season and scored his first league goal for them at a record breaking young age. That season, FC Barcelona won La Liga, and the following season the team won both La Liga and Champions League. During the 2006/2007 season Messi completed a hat-trick in El Clásico and managed to score 14 goals over the course of 26 games. During the 2008/2009 season, he scored 38 goals and helped his team secure three prestigious trophy’s. During the 2009/2010 season, Messi scored 47 goals, thus reaching Ronaldo’s old record for FC Barcelona. During the 2010/2011 season Messi broke Ronaldo’s record by scoring a total of 53 goals. During Messi’s time in FC Barcelona, the team has won La Liga five times and Champions League three times.

Private life

  • Lionel Andrés Messi was born in Rosario in the Argentine province of Santa Fe in 1987.
  • His father Jorge Horacio Messi was a factory worker while his mother Celia María Cuccittini worked part-time as a cleaning lady.
  • On his father’s side, Messi can trace his ancestry back to Angelo Messi who migrated to Argentina from Ancona in Italy in 1883.
  • Messi has two older brothers, Rodrigo and Matias, and a sister named Maria Sol.
  • Messi has two football playing cousins. Maxi Biancucchi plays for Club Olimpia in Paraguay, while Emanuel Biancucchi is a center fielder in Girona FC in Spain.
  • When Messi was 11 years old he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency and needed a costly ($900/month) treatment. His relatives in Lleida in Catalonia arranged a meeting between the young promising footballer and FC Barcelona’s chief of sport Carles Rexach which resulted in FC Barcelona offering Messi a contract and medical treatment in Spain. Messi moved to Spain with his father and joined the FC Barcelona Youth Academy.

David Beckham (David Robert Joseph Beckham)

 
David Robert Joseph Beckham is an English footballer who holds the all-time appearance record for an outfield player in the England national team. He is the only English player to score in three world cups. He has never received the FIFA World Player of the Year award but has been runner-up twice. In 2004, Beckham was the world’s best paid football player if you count both salary and advertising deals. In both 2003 and 2004, Beckham was Google’s most searched of all sports topics.

As a child, Beckham attended Bobby Charlton’s football school and played for the Ridgeway Rover, a local youth team coached by Beckham’s father. He then attended Tottenham Hotspur’s school of excellence and joined the club, before switching to Brimsdown Rovers youth team for a two year stint. During his time in Bromsdown he was named Under-15 Player of the Year in 1990. On his fourteenth birthday, he signed for Manchester United and subsequently entered a Youth Training Scheme.
Beckham made his first appearance for United’s first-team in 1992 as a substitute in the League Cup match. Shortly thereafter, he signed his first professional contract. He made his UEFA Champions League debut in December 1994.  During a part of the 1994/1995 season Backham was loaned to Preston North End, before returning to Manchester United to make his Premier League debut.
During his time with Manchester United, Beckham played 265 Premier League matches and scored 61 goals. He also made 81 appearances in Champions League where he scored 15 goals. Manchester United won six Premier League titles, one European Cup and one Intercontinental Cup.
In 2003, Beckham signed a four-year contract with Real Madrid. During Beckhams first season with Real Madrid, the team won the Spanish Super Cup and finishes second in Copa del Rey.
In 2007 Beckham signed up for five years with Los Angeles Galaxy. The cost of $6.5 million per year was not paid by Los Angeles Galaxy alone but by all the 14 MLS teams together since the goal of bringing Beckham to the United States was to boost the nation’s overall interest in soccer.
In 2008, Beckham was loaned to AC Milan. Eventually, a timeshare deal was reached were Beckham were to play with Galaxy från mid-July to the end of the 2009 MLS season, and then be loaned out ot Milan again. With Beckham on the team, Galaxy won the 2009 Western Conference final. He returned to AC Milan in January 2010, and went back to Galaxy in September to help them secure their second successive Western Conference title. During the following season, Beckham spent the entire season with Galaxy and the team won the 2011 MLS Cup.

Zidane (Zinedine Yazid Zidane)

 
Zinedine Zidane is a retired French football player and the only three-time FIFA World Player of the Year winner. Zidane received the Ballon d’Or in 1998, and in 2004 he was voted as the best European footballer of the previous 50 years in UEFA’s 50th anniversary Golden Jubilee Poll. He helped France to victories in the 1998 World Cup as well as in the 2000 European Championship, and he also captained France to the 200 World Cup Final where he was awarded with the FIFA Golden Ball as the tournament’s most outstanding player.

Career

At the age of ten, Zidane joined the junior team of US Saint-Henri, a local club based in La Castellane. After a year and a half he switched to SO Septèmes Valons. When he was 14 years old he was selected to attend a training camp run by the French Football Federation and was spotted by a talent scout for the AS Cannes. Zidane travelled to Cannes for a six-week stay, but ended up staying with the club for four years as a pro. At first the 14 year old lived in a dormitory with other trainees, but soon he moved in with Cannes director Jean-Claude Elineau and his family. Zidane played his first Ligue 1 match for Cannes in 1989, at the age of 17. During Zidanes first full season with Cannes, the team qualified for the UEFA Cup for the first time in the history of the club.
In the 1992/1993 season Zidane was transferred to Girondins de Bordeaux where he stayed until 1996. Girondins de Bordeaux won the 1995 Intertoto Cup and finished second in the 1995/1996 UEFA Cup. Zidane was transferred to Juventus for £3.2 millions in 1996.
Juventus won the 1996/1997 Serie A and the 1996 Intercontinental Cup, and finished second in the 1997 UEFA Champions League. Juventus then proceeded to win the 1997/1998 Serie A and once again finish second in the UEFA Champions League. In 2000/2001, the team finished second in Serie A. During his time with Juventus, Zidane was named Serie A Foreign Footballer of the Year for both 1997 and 2001.
In 2001, Zidane signed a four year contract and transferred to Real Madrid for a record breaking transfer fee of 150 billion Italian lire (roughly €75 millions). Real Madrid won the 2002 UEFA Champions League, and in the next season Zidane helped his team secure a victory in La Liga. During Zidane’s last season for Real Madrid, he was their second highest goal scorer and assists provider with 9 goals and 10 assists over the course of 28 games. Zidane played his last home match for Real Madrid in May 2006.

Zlatan Ibrahimović


Zlatan Ibrahimović is a Swedish football (soccer) player famous for his ability to score goals. In 2011, he was the best paid football player in the world.

In his native Sweden, Zlatan is the only player awarded with the prestigious Guldbollen six times (2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011). Guldbollen is a Swedish football award given once a year by the Swedish Football Association and the newspaper Aftonbladet to the best male Swedish football player.

Zlatan has several nicknames, including Ibra, Ibracadabra, Ibra Supermacy and Il Genio. In most Slavic languages, Zlatan means golden.

Career

Zlatan started playing for Malmö BI at the age of 17, and he eventually dropped out of Football High school to focus full-time on his football career. After a few stints with BK Flagg and FBK Balkan, Zlatan joined Malmö FF in 1994. In 1999, Zlatan made his top-tier league debut with Malmö FF. However, Malmö FF was relegated from the top-tier after that season, so Zlatan spent the next season playing for Malmö FF in second-tier Superettan.

In 2001 Zlatan was transferred to Ajax in the Netherlands. During his first season with Ajax, he played 24 matches and scored six goals. In 2004 he was transferred to Juventus in Italy where he stayed until 2006. The next transfer took place with in Italy, from Juventus to Inter. Zlatan made his debut with Inter in a match against Fiorentina and scored a goal. Juventus went on to win the Italian Championships in 2006/2007 with Zlatan scoring 15 goals during the season – the highest number of any Inter player that season. During the season of 2008/2009, Zlatan made the largest amount of goals of any Serie A-player, a stunning 25 goals of which 2 where penalty kicks.

In 2009, the Spanish football club FC Barcelona paid €46 million to transfer Zlatan from Inter to FC Barcelona, and as a part of the agreement FC Barcelona also committed to releasing Samuel Eto’o (valued at €20 millions). Zlatan’s first league match for FC Barlecona took place on Barcelona’s home arena Camp Nou against Sporting de Gijón and ended 3-0 with Zlatan scoring a goal in the final minutes. In 2010, Zlatan signed a three year long contract with his third Italian football club – AC Milan. He scored his first goal for AC Milan in a match against Laszio.
